Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is a modular home?

Modular homes are also known as off-site construction homes. Essentially, all homes are built in a weather-free environment and then transported to the home’s site and assembled. Constructing the home in a controlled environment allows for maximization of efficiency and quality. It’s also much easier to have a professionally built home in a rural or otherwise difficult to reach area when it’s a modular home.

That sounds a lot like a mobile home. Is a modular home a mobile home?

No. In the construction stage, a modular home follows all rules and regulations that an on-site constructed home would follow. Mobile homes follow an entirely different set of regulations. Modular homes are also built to be setup on a foundation or basement. While mobile homes and modular homes may sound similar, the proof is in the quality of construction and setup. A modular home is not a mobile home.

How does the structural strength of a modular home compare to that of a traditional home?

Because modular homes need to sustain the addition stress of transportation that tradition homes do not endure, they are built much stronger. The additional strength required during the transportation process remains with the home after it is assembled. Substantial proof of this came when FEMA studied the destruction wrought by Hurricane Andrew in Dade County Florida. They concluded that modular and masonry homes fared best compared to any other type construction.
